Ultimately, this worldwide outage was a massive push for IT professionals to strive for a platform-agnostic future. E.g. Technologies exist that can facilitate cross-platform failover of SQL Server databases between Windows and Linux. Multi-platform redundancy of this nature would’ve allowed affected organizations to quickly migrate their SQL Server workloads from unavailable Windows Server hosts over to Linux to avoid extended downtime and effectively mitigate the disaster.
