For more than 15 years, DH2i has been helping organizations simplify SQL Server high availability across Windows, Linux, and Kubernetes. It’s what we’ve built our reputation on, and it’s not going anywhere.

But as database environments continue to evolve, so do we.

Very soon, DH2i will expand DxEnterprise Smart High Availability to support PostgreSQL.

We’re bringing our approach to simplified high availability, automated failover, and secure connectivity to one of the world’s most widely adopted open-source databases.

Adding PostgreSQL Support to DxEnterprise: A Natural Evolution

DH2i has been working to give organizations more flexibility in how they deploy and protect their critical database workloads. We’ve worked alongside amazing technology partners at Microsoft, Red Hat, and SUSE to optimize our products and help customers embrace new platforms without sacrificing availability. Several important milestones along the way have included:

Today’s announcement is a response to the growing industry popularity of PostgreSQL for heavy relational and OLTP enterprise workloads (11.9% of companies with revenue >200mil deploy PostgreSQL in production), as well as a huge shift towards open source that we’ve watched develop in real time among our customers. Linux now represents 40% of observed SQL Server operating system deployments within DH2i’s customer environments, according to our telemetry.

Why PostgreSQL is Gaining Momentum

Greater Flexibility and Cost Control

PostgreSQL offers an attractive open-source alternative without traditional per-core database licensing fees. For some workloads, this can translate into significant cost savings. A move to PostgreSQL also gives IT teams greater flexibility and negotiating leverage when choosing/changing infrastructure providers, because they can select from a variety of infrastructure and service providers without having to uproot their database technology.

Modern Infrastructure and Cloud-Native Adoption

PostgreSQL has a mature ecosystem spanning Linux, cloud platforms, containers, and Kubernetes.

Whether organizations are building new cloud-native applications or modernizing existing database environments, PostgreSQL provides a flexible foundation for a wide range of deployment strategies.

Growing Demand for AI-Ready Databases

As AI-powered applications become more prevalent, PostgreSQL’s mature ecosystem of extensions and vector-search capabilities has made it an increasingly attractive option for developers.

From semantic search to retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), PostgreSQL supports a growing range of AI application requirements.

Additionally, scaling up a PostgreSQL database to support the massive CPU core counts and memory necessitated by AI workloads is much more financially feasible than doing so with other traditional database solutions that levy per-core database licensing fees.

Adopting PostgreSQL Doesn’t Change HA Considerations

One of PostgreSQL’s biggest advantages is its open-source licensing model, but eliminating database licensing fees doesn’t eliminate the operational considerations associated with running business-critical databases.

Organizations still need to consider failover orchestration, monitoring, network connectivity, disaster recovery, and streamlining management. And when PostgreSQL deployments span multiple sites or cloud environments, maintaining availability can become even more complex.

These are the challenges that DxEnterprise is entering the picture to address.

Introducing DxEnterprise Smart HA for PostgreSQL

DxEnterprise’s full HA support for PostgreSQL, coming in early 2027, focuses on benefiting customers in 3 key areas:

Simplified High Availability and Disaster Recovery

Help reduce the complexity of deploying and managing highly available PostgreSQL environments across distributed infrastructure.

Automated Failover and Business Continuity

Help organizations minimize downtime and manual intervention through fast, intelligent failover orchestration designed for business-critical database environments.

Secure Connectivity Across Sites and Clouds

Simplify secure network connectivity between distributed PostgreSQL infrastructure using DH2i’s integrated zero trust network access tunneling capabilities.

This technology eliminates the need for traditional VPN solutions, complex firewall manipulations, or patchwork networking approaches that are difficult to manage.

Together, these core DH2i capabilities are designed to give PostgreSQL teams a simpler way to protect their database environments while maximizing flexibility in where and how they can deploy.

Additional solution details will be disclosed as we approach general availability.

More Database Choices. The Same Commitment to Availability.

Our expansion into PostgreSQL doesn’t mean we’re moving away from SQL Server.

Quite the opposite.

DH2i remains committed to helping SQL Server customers simplify HA, reduce infrastructure complexity, and modernize at their own pace.

Adding PostgreSQL represents the next step in that mission, because whether an organization chooses SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or a combination of both, it should have the freedom to build an infrastructure strategy around its business needs.

And high availability restraints shouldn’t stand in the way.
