The Docker Container Management Solution Pack for DxEnterprise contains optional, add-on support for Docker containers to help you get the most out of your containerized Windows or Linux environment(s). It gives you the power to achieve many of the same benefits of using DxEnterprise (DxE) to manage native application instances—high availability, consolidation, cost savings and much more.
Our Vhost technology encapsulates Docker containers to manage them within our advanced high availability framework. DxE is the only technology that can orchestrate easy failover of stateful Docker containers between Windows Server OSes or varying Linux distributions—all while maintaining the data persistence your stateful containers require.
Any Docker container can be managed with this add-on. The most common use cases for the tool are RDBMS instances which require data persistence such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, and others.
Docker on Linux
SQL Server: The Docker Solution Pack is the enabler for high availability for your consolidated SQL Server Linux environment. SQL Server on Linux does not currently support named instances—so native instances cannot be stacked on Linux servers using DxE. However, SQL Server instances in Docker containers can be easily encapsulated using Vhost technology to pull them into the DxE HA framework.
While the Docker Solution Pack has major enablement impact on containerized instances of SQL Server on Linux, it can also be used to manage any Docker container on the Linux platform.
Supported Platforms: The DxE Docker Container Management Solution Pack is supported on CentOS 7+, RHEL 7+ and Ubuntu 16+. It enables failover of stateful Docker containers across these distributions right out of the box—all with data persistence through failover.
Docker on Windows
Use-Cases: The Docker Solution Pack allows you to encapsulate any Docker container—including containerized SQL Server—and pull it into DxE’s advanced high availability framework. All the same benefits of leveraging DH2i with native instances can be achieved with Docker containers.
Supported Platforms: The DxE Docker Container Management Solution Pack is supported on Windows Server 2016+, and can easily facilitate failover of stateful Docker containers between hosts while keeping persistent data intact.
