The last several months have been an exciting time with the release of the latest and greatest in SQL Server, massive acquisitions being announced out of nowhere and technology/product innovations happening by the day. A massive trend towards cloud infrastructure is continuing and doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon, and spending projections are astronomical. Check out some of the most significant news from the industry below.
- “SQL Server 2016 is generally available” — On June 1st SQL Server 2016 became generally available and promises the integration of advanced analytics among many other innovations and improvements.
- “DH2i Announces Containers as a Service (CaaS) for SQL Server” — DH2i is tapping Rackspace to back its 24x7x365 managed service for SQL Server in the cloud. CaaS for SQL Server is a disruptive technology that allows customers to fully exploit the fractional consumption and predictable scale of the cloud.
- “Microsoft buys LinkedIn for $26.2 billion” — Microsoft recently announced its largest acquisition ever. Business Insider goes on to talk about the motivation behind the acquisition, as well as the potential integrations and overall vision that Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, has for the two entities going forward.
- “Public and private cloud now account for a quarter of infrastructure spending” — IDC says that “cloud-related infrastructure spending is likely to reach $10.7 billion by 2020.”
